JSudokuCreator

JSudokuCreator is a Java program for creating and solving Sudokus. JSudokuCreator is an Open Source project released under the GPL.

JSudokuCreator can create, solve and printout Sudokus. It can also save Sudokus in files an load them from files.

At the moment JSudokuCreator is localized in English and German. If you want to do some translations please contact me!

A short online help is available for JSudokuCreator and can be accessed in the program by pressing the F1 key.

Installation and starting the application


Preparation - Java runtime enviroment

For running JSudokuCreator the Java runtime (JRE) must be installed. JSudokuCreator needs version 1.5 or better.
You can get the actual Java runtime here. If the JRE is not already installed on your system install it and follow the instructions!

  • RPM (Red Hat Package)

    As root do the following
     
    rpm -i jsudokucreator-1.1-0.noarch.rpm
     
    then you should find the JSudokuCreator icon under Games or Games/Puzzle.
    You can also use 'jsudokucreator' on the command line. There is a link in '/usr/bin' to '/usr/share/jsudokucreator/jstart'
     
    I have tested the RPM package with KDE and Gnome under OpenSuSE 11.1

    The RPM packages are signed so you can verify the integrity of the package. For this do the following:
    As root import my GPG public key:
     
    rpm --import gpg_pubkey.txt
     
    Then you can verify the package with this:
     
    rpm --checksig jsudokucreator-1.1-0.noarch.rpm
     
    The output should look like this:
     
    jsudokucreator-1.1-0.noarch.rpm: (sha1) dsa sha1 md5 gpg OK

    The source RPM contains the stuff you need to build the package. You only need this if you want to build your own package!
    If you are interested in the source code download the source tar file!

  • DEB (Debian Package)

    The debian package was automatically created from the RPM package by alien:
     
    alien -cd jsudokucreator-1.1-0.noarch.rpm
     
    For installing do as root the following:
     
    dpkg -i jsudokucreator_1.1-0_all.deb
     
    then you should find the JSudokuCreator icon under Games or Games/Puzzle.
    You can also use 'jsudokucreator' on the command line. There is a link in '/usr/bin' to '/usr/share/jsudokucreator/jstart'
     
    I have tested the DEB package with Gnome under Ubuntu 7.04.
  • Tar file

    • tar xzf linux_jsudokucreator-1.1.tar.gz
    • cd jsudokucreator
    • ./jstart

    PS: If you have a 64 bit system (e.g. AMD 64 bit CPU (Athlon) and 64 bit compiled Linux) you can use the 64 bit Java runtime to get better performance!
     
    If you want to keep your 32 bit Java runtime without modification as the default JRE you can also install additionally the 64 bit version.
    Let's assume that you have installed the 64 bit JRE in /opt/re1.6.0_x64 than you can start JSudokuCreator using the 64 bit version JRE with
     
    jsudokucreator /opt/re1.6.0_x64
    if you have installed JSudokuCreator from a package or with
     
    /opt/re1.6.0_x64/bin/java -jar jstart.jar
    if you have installed JSudokuCreator from the Tar archive.

  • Java bug

    If you get the following:
    java: xcb_xlib.c:52: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion 'c->xlib.lock' failed.
    It's a bug in Java with new X-Servers and Xinerama (I have seen this on OpenSuses 10.3 e.g.). This affects all Java applications not only JSudokuCreator!
    You can try the following:
    Go to your Java directoty (e.g. /opt/jre1.6.0_03/), then go to the lib directory and then depending on your platform to the i386 or amd64 directory. Now go the xawt directory, there you will find the file libmawt.so. You must patch tis file, so do the following:
    sed -i 's/XINERAMA/FAKEEXTN/g' libmawt.so .
    This will replace all occurences of XINERAMA with FAKEEXTN.
